Deposed Oba In Alleged Forgery Scandal

September 18, (THEWILL) – Embattled Chief Taiwo Abdulrazaq is currently enmeshed in a forgery scandal a few months after he was deposed as the traditional ruler of Awo in Osun State.

Abdulrazaq became the Alawo of Awo town in Osun State in 2021 almost one year after the former traditional ruler, Oba Olatunbosun Adebayo passed on. He was appointed by the Adegboyega Oyetolal-ed administration through a unilateral appointment.

Before he was crowned, Abdulrazaq was a Councillor for Awo/Abudo Ward in Egbedore Local Government Area of Osun State. After he ascended the throne of Awo, a petition was written by four ruling houses in the community:

Akinsilo, Okunji, Awojobi and Yebokun/Abioye, allege that the new king has no royal blood flowing in his veins and shouldn’t deprive those who rightfully own the throne the right to rule. They asked the Osun State Government to reconsider their decision and return the stool to the rightful heir.

Not satisfied with the response of the government, the four ruling houses took the matter to a High Court in Akure. The court, in its ruling, set aside the appointment of Abdulrazaq and restrained him from parading himself as a traditional ruler.

The disgraced monarch went to the Appeal Court in Akure but the presiding judge, Justice Lokulo Sodipo, upheld the verdict of the High Court and declared the action of the state government in appointing Abdulrazaq as contempt of the court. He was thrown out of the palace and stripped of his title after the court verdict.

In a new development, the deposed traditional ruler has been accused of forging his selection documents. Abdulrazaq had forged the documents which were used in selecting him for the throne. A new petition was written to the Inspector-General of Police, Alkali Usman, calling for his arrest for forging the Alawo of Awo Chieftaincy Declaration document which is a criminal offense.
