April 13, (THEWILL) – The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Murtala Muhammed International Airport Command, has given its account of how a firearm was intercepted at the airport on Wednesday.
A statement signed by the Public Relations Officer, Nigeria Customs Service, Murtala Muhammed International Airport Command, Victor Ogagbor (DSC), stated that the passenger was arrested during a routine examination at the D Wing of the terminal at about 1105hrs on Wednesday.
“Operatives of the Nigeria Customs Service at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport while on routine examination at the ‘D’ wing of the arrival hall at about 1105 hours on April 13, 2022 intercepted a Pistol with two magazines, containing 26 rounds of ammunition in a baggage.”
The statement which gave the name of the passenger as Mr Afolabi Olumide, with Passport number B50120017, arriving from Washington DC on board a United Airlines flight added, “The suspected passenger had earlier been accused by Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) of illegally being in possession of two International Passports.”
The importation of the firearm, according to the statement by Nigeria Customs, “contravenes Schedule 4 of the Customs and Excise and Management Act, which is an Absolute Prohibition.”
Ogagbor, however, said NCS MMIA command has since handed over the suspect and the Arms to the Department of States Services at the airport for further investigation.
