February 01, (THEWILL) – Chelsea continue to hug the transfer window headlines with the announcement of their record-breaking transfer deal on wm Wednesday.
The Stamford Bridge club has signed Argentine World Cup winner, Enzo Fernandez, from Benfica for a staggering fee of €121m. This marks the eighth and final signing for Chelsea in the winter transfer window.
Benfica confirmed the transfer early Wednesday morning, putting an end to the intense negotiations that took place between the two sides throughout January. Although the deal was not officially announced until after the transfer deadline, Chelsea has now confirmed that Fernandez has joined their team at Stamford Bridge.
Fernandez’s signing follows the additions of Benoit Badiashile, David Datro Fofana, Mykhailo Mudryk, Joao Felix, Noni Madueke, Andrey Santos, and Malo Gusto to the Chelsea roster. Gusto will return to Lyon on loan for the rest of the season.
Fernandez had only joined Benfica in the summer of 2022 from River Plate after a close race for his signature with Wolves.
