February 02, (THEWILL) – The Egypt Football Association (EFA) has been fined $100,000 by the Disciplinary Board of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), with $50,000 suspended, for violating CAF TotalEnergies 2021 Africa Cup of Nations media standards and guidelines.
This comes after the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) failed to hold a media press conference on January 29, 2022, prior to their match against Morocco in the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations quarterfinals at Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium, as required by all participating teams.
The media and CAF rights holders had been waiting for Egypt to arrive for the scheduled press conference for about two hours.
Egypt FA has 60 days to pay the fine of $50,000.
The remaining $50,000 is conditional on Egypt FA not being found guilty of a similar offence as a result of the team failing to follow CAF’s decisions and directives as agreed at the pre-tournament teams’ associations media and marketing meeting and further amplified by documentation and directives given to them upon their arrival in Cameroon.
