BEVERLY HILLS, August 17, (THEWILL) – Nigerian airports will resume international flight operations on August 29, 2020, Aviation Minister, Hadi Sirika announced Monday in a tweet.

Nigeria closed the airports since March 23, 2020, following the coronavirus pandemic but only allowed approved emergency and essential flights.

Sirika said four flights would begin landing daily in Lagos, and four in Abuja, with strict protocols. He did not say where they would be coming from.

“It is safe to fly, if we observe all those protocols in place,” Sirika later said at a briefing in Abuja.

Nigeria approved the reopening of local airports for domestic flights on July 8 with strict protocols in place for passengers.

Passengers on international flights will need to provide a negative COVID-19 test in order to board and pay for another test after they arrive in Nigeria, Sirika said. They will also be required to fill in an online health questionnaire and present it to authorities when they land.

Those currently returning to Nigeria aboard repatriation flights are required to self-quarantine for 14 days, and authorities retain passports for that period.

Nigeria Monday reported 417 confirmed new cases of the coronavirus to bring the tally in the country to 49, 485 with 36, 834 recoveries and 977 deaths.
