October 16, (THEWILL) –Â Ajax defeated Excelsior 7-1 to make up for their painful 4-2 loss to Napoli in their last UEFA Champions League tie.
Jorge Sanchez scored the game’s first goal after 15 minutes, taking full advantage of Steven Berghuis’ parried shot that fell to him. Brian Berghuis added a second goal ten minutes later from a Calvin Bassey assist, and Brobbey made it three soon before halftime.
Ajax continued in the second half with Brobbey netting his brace to make it 4-0. Dusan Tadic added the fifth and Steven Bergwijn curled in the sixth, before substitute Mohamed Kudus wrapped up the whitewash in the 81st minute.
But, Nikolas Agrafiotis prevented an Ajax clean sheet with a consolation goal. The result Ajax top the league and Excelsior are in 12th place.
Next up for Ajax is a Saturday Eredivisie fixture against RKC Waalwijk while Excelsior will play in midweek against MVV Maastricht.
