Barnes’ Equaliser Earns Leicester 1-1 Draw With Brentford

March 18, (THEWILL) – Brentford’s hopes of securing a spot in the Premier League’s top six took a hit after being held to a 1-1 draw by Leicester on Saturday.

Despite dominating the opening stages, the Bees were kept at bay by Leicester’s resolute defence, with several crosses blocked by Daniel Amartey and Harry Souttar. Leicester had the first half-sight of goal when Harvey Barnes curled a strike just past the post.

Brentford broke the deadlock just after the half-hour mark through a cleverly-worked corner that saw Mathias Jensen’s deflected strike trickling past Daniel Iversen at the near post. Leicester equalised after the restart when James Maddison split the Brentford defence with a wonderfully weighted ball to Barnes, who dinked over the onrushing David Raya.

However, Shandon Baptiste was sent off for two bookable offences towards the end of a quiet second half, and the Bees saw out the game with 10 men. There was not enough time for the Foxes to make anything of their numerical advantage.

Brentford missed the chance to move up into the Premier League’s top six and Leicester remain only one point outside the relegation zone. The Foxes will look to improve on this performance when they face Crystal Palace in their next match after the international break. Brentford, on the other hand, will take on Brighton and Hove Albion in their next game on April 1.
