Anenih, New PDP, PDM Mourn Former PDP Chief, Lar

BEVERLY HILLS, CA, October 10, (THEWILL) –  The Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Tony Anenih, has described the death of former National Chairman and former Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the party, Chief Solomon Daushep Lar, 80, as a great loss to both the party and the nation.

Chief Anenih said in a reaction to the news of Lar’s death that “this is, indeed, very sad and painful. Chief Solomon Lar was a great leader and pillar of our party.  He was a Titan of democracy whose leadership and invaluable counsel will be missed by the PDP family, especially at this time when efforts are being made at genuine reconciliation.”

Declaring that the elder statesman would be sorely missed by the PDP and the nation, Chief Anenih sympathized with the family members and prayed that the Almighty God would grant them the fortitude to bear the loss of a great husband, father and grandfather.

We’ve Lost A Rare Gem – New PDP

The Alhaji Abubakar Kawu Baraje-led Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in a statement said the news of the death of the death of the elder statesman was shocking.

“Chief Lar was a colourful politician of substance, a first-class patriot and an accomplished administrator. As pioneer Chairman of PDP, he played a significant role in laying a solid foundation on which his successors built to make the party the poster boy of Nigerian politics and in sustaining and growing our hard-won democracy,” the faction of the PDP said.

It further said, “Chief Lar’s death, coming on the heels of that of another of our former leaders, Dr. Olusegun Agagu, has robbed both our great party and the country at large of a rare voice of wisdom.

“We pray that God Almighty will accept his soul in eternity and grant us Nigerians the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.

“We hereby send our condolences to the Lar family, to the Plateau State Government, to President Goodluck Jonathan and to all Nigerians.

“A great man has departed! Adieu, Chief Solomon Daushep Lar.”

Also, the Peoples Democratic Movement, PDM, has described the passing on of Lar, as a great loss to Nigeria.

The National Chairman of PDM, Mallam Yusuf Ibrahim, who spoke through his Media Advisor, Alaba Yusuf, stated that, “Chief Lar was a political colossus of the highest breed who brought colour and candour to the artistry of politics in the country, dating back to pre-independence days.”

Mallam Ibrahim further stressed that Chief Lar, a former governor of Plateau state and ex federal parliamentarian, was “an indomitable politician who till his death prayed and wished for unity and security amongst Nigerians, as exemplified in his Independence Day clarion call for oneness.”

In addition, the PDM believes that the sudden exit of a great politician of Chief Lar’s pedigree and wealth of experience would definitely create a big vacuum which will be difficult to fill.

“We pray that his amiable soul shall rest in peace; we also wish members of his family the fortitude to bear the huge loss,” Ibrahim concluded.
Lar died on Wednesday morning in a United States of America hospital after a protracted ailment.
